Strip or Die! (Rosie Delight: The Amazing One Woman Burlesque Show)
Victoria Fringe Festival
NO Stars
This was an unequivocal mess.
It is described as: “One point four billion years ago, the first multicellular life was formed. It was named Rosie Delight. Over millions of millennia, it has picked up the talents to bewilder and astonish even the most cynical of voyeurs. Now, you, too, have the opportunity to ponder and speculate on this arcane being as it performs The Amazing (Almost) One Woman Burlesque Show. “
Perhaps it was meant to be funny. Perhaps it was meant to be ironic. Perhaps…
…but honestly, I don’t care. This show insulted women, men, strippers, burlesque as a genre, candy, murderers, and even gerbils. It was not sexy. It was not empowering. It was a visual and aural disaster.
There is no point to start listing everything that is wrong with the 40 minutes of my life that I will never get back. Instead, I’m going to dwell on the one positive aspect of the show:
And that is, that the lights were dim enough between scenes for me to slip out and escape instead of being trapped inside for the rest of the hour.
